EMCI

In cooperation with the European Commission, the European Parliament and the EMCI Consortium, the Institute of Applied Linguistics, University of Warsaw, offers a postgraduate, two-semester intensive course of conference interpreting

EUROPEAN MASTERS IN CONFERENCE INTERPRETING

The study program is shared by all the member institutions of the EMCI Consortium and consists of 556 hours (400 contact hours plus self-study component) of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, conducted by professional conference interpreters, with the use of the state-of-the-art professional conference equipment (booths and laboratories), voice coaching, lectures on the European institutions and theory of conference interpreting.

Apart from that, the program provides an opportunity of an internship in the European institutions (the Directorate-General for Interpretation DG SCIC of the European Commission and the Directorate-General for Logistics and Interpretation for Conferences DG LINC of the European Parliament) and a two-week training in one of the member institutions of the EMCI Consortium.

The study program is organized in response to the demand for conference interpreters to work in the institutions of the European Union.

Each student chooses a combination of 2 of the 4 foreign languages offered (English and French or German or Spanish) and works in the ABC or ACC combination during the course.

Classes are conducted from October to June, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Course Leader:  prof. ucz. dr hab. Agnieszka Biernacka
