The University of Warsaw, est. 1816, is the largest university in Poland, with nearly 60,000 students from all corners of the globe. Its main campus is located in the heart of the metropolis hailed a ‘World Class City’ by the Lonely Planet guides. The conference venue – the recently refurbished Old Library – lies in the centre of the scenic university grounds among several historic palaces. The participants will also experience the world-famous traditional Polish cuisine.

The organising and scientific committees have completed the evaluation of abstracts. Submissions were double-blind peer-reviewed and evaluated on the basis of relevance, originality, scientific significance and practical merit. In view of the substantial amount of submissions we received and the very high average quality, the blind refereeing process had to be rather competitive. We expect over 120 participants from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, China, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Georgia, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Kuwait, Latvia, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Morocco, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam, and are looking forward to what is sure to be an exciting and remarkable, truly multicultural and multilingual event.
At least one author of every accepted proposal will be expected to attend the conference. We recommend that you book your flight and accommodation as soon as possible, since September is high season in Warsaw, and 2010 is the year of Chopin, with several events devoted to the great Polish composer.
The conference is held under the patronage of the Chancellor of the University of Warsaw and supported by the Warsaw University Foundation.
Paper publication:
Authors of papers accepted for presentation were invited, after the conference, to submit their papers for publication in an edited stand-alone volume. Papers will be subjected to refereeing. Two leading international publishers have declared their interest in bringing the book out. The call for submissions was announced in late autumn 2010.

Important travel information:
Owing to runway maintenance works, Warsaw Frédéric Chopin Airport (WAW) is going to be closed on Saturday, Sept. 18th. On Friday 17th it is going to operate normally until 2330 hrs; it reopens on Sunday 19th at 0800 hrs (morning). Consequently, you may consider leaving Warsaw on the Sunday rather than Saturday, especially if you want to join our Sunday excursion (see below).
Warsaw Frédéric Chopin Airport is connected to the city centre and the university campus by a municipal bus line and taxis. Bus line 175 runs all week from 0500 to 2330 hrs. The ride to the central university campus takes approximately 40 minutes (stop: ‘Uniwersytet’); however, owing to some current roadworks en route you may on occasions need to add up to 20 minutes more, so please allow a sufficient margin for your departure. The 40-minute bus ticket (‘Bilet 40-minutowy’) can be purchased in the Arrivals Hall for PLN 2.80 (PLN 1.40 reduced student rate). A three-day ticket (‘Bilet 3-dniowy’) costs PLN 16.00 and 8.00, respectively, a 7-day ticket – PLN 32.00 and 16.00. Three taxi corporations offer services from the airport to the city: Merc Taxi, MPT Radio Taxi, Sawa Taxi; they can be found in a rank outside the Arrivals Hall. The meter flag fall charge in most corporate taxes in Warsaw is PLN 5-6, and the rate per kilometre between PLN 1.60 and PLN 2.40. As in any other city, avoid non-corporate drivers. The Central Railway Station is only 12 minutes’ bus ride away from the conference venue.
Conference program
The conference is going to commence on Thursday, Sep. 16th in the morning and close on Saturday, Sep. 18th after lunch. The final program can be found here. You are also invited to browse through the Book of Abstracts.
Poster presentations
There are going to be two poster sessions during the first two days of the conference. Poster sessions provide a more intimate forum for exchange than do oral presentations, by facilitating informal discussions between the presenters and their audience. A well-constructed poster will be clear and self-explanatory and free the presented from answering obvious questions so that s/he is available to supplement and discuss particular points of interest. This form of presentation should convey the message with the least text possible; instead, it typically makes extensive, imaginative use of captioned illustrations and other visually appealing material. Lettering should be large enough to read from several feet away. The total poster size should not exceed A0 format. For some examples of good posters see e.g. http://www.cogsys2010.ethz.ch/proceedings.html.

Sightseeing trip

An extra fee will apply for this event (see fees above); the number of places is strictly limited.
